Development of palliative care

The need to promote access to palliative care is a major issue for all of humanity.

Palliative care consists in ensuring each patient the best possible offer of care regardless of where they live to relieve their suffering and provide support to families and loved ones who are often distraught.

Palliative care in Africa

The Africa Uganda Hospice

The Africa Uganda Hospice (HAU) was created in September 1993 to enable all those in need in Africa to benefit from palliative care services. This project was born thanks to the dedication of a working group led by Dr Professor Anne Meriman. His philosophy is to put the patient and their family at the heart of the project. The WHO and the World Palliative Care Alliance consider Uganda one of the countries with the best palliative care services in the world. The teaching of palliative care is one of the professions of the future in Africa. Collaborative relationships are forged with quality partners such as HAUK, Hospice Ireland, Hospice Africa France, Hospice Africa The Netherlands, Hospice Africa United States, through various programs and support activities.

Soins palliatifs dans le monde

French International Federation of Palliative Care

Like English-speaking countries, French-speaking countries wish to promote palliative care in the French language. The International Federation of Palliative Care (FISP) is campaigning for the recognition of the right of access to palliative care for all those in need, in all countries of the world.

French Society of Support and Palliative Care

The French Society for Palliative Care and Support (SFAP) intends to play a major role in the development of palliative care and support. SFAP advocates for a better promotion of the palliative care activity. It also wants recognition and integration of palliative care in the educational field. Relations are forged with other specialties such as geriatrics, oncology, etc. to deepen the reflection in order to be able to respond to all the situations and needs of all those whose “condition requires palliative care”, wherever they are.

Founding Association for the Development of Palliative Care

Founded in 1984, the Founding ASP plays a considerable role in the popularization and development of palliative care. It brings together volunteers to support patients with critical illness who are in a critical phase as well as to support their loved ones. Volunteers, trained to relieve pain and take into account the psychological, social and spiritual suffering of patients can intervene at home as well as in hospitals and other specialized establishments.

The Walloon Palliative Care Federation of Belgium

The Walloon Federation of Palliative Care (FWSP) is an association created in 1995 for the promotion and dissemination of quality palliative care. The FWSP wishes to develop initiatives aimed at making palliative care accessible to all.
