I am Dr. Rokhaya THIAM, gynecologist-obstetrician in Dakar and founder of the Alliance for Palliative Care in Senegal (ASPASEN).

Welcome to our website !

Palliative care is an approach intended to relieve and improve the quality of life of patients and their families confronted with the consequences of serious chronic diseases.

The WHO estimates that 40 million people need palliative care each year and that 78% of them live in low and middle income countries. Globally, only about 14% of people in need of palliative care receive it.

ASPASEN is a non-profit association whose vision is to make palliative care accessible throughout Senegal.

Our mission is to support people suffering from serious chronic illnesses and their families by accompanying them through all stages of the illness.

In addition to the physical suffering, psycho-social, emotional and spiritual aspects are added to the problems that the patient must face at the announcement of the diagnosis and throughout its evolution.

This situation is difficult for those around them, who are often powerless and lack the necessary skills to help them.

In a holistic approach, ASPASEN’s ambition is to assist these patients and their relatives and to help them preserve their dignity regardless of their age and social condition.

Join us to participate in this solidarity movement.
