What does ASPASEN mean? Why was it created?
ASPASEN is the acronym of Alliance for Palliative Care in Senegal ASPASEN. It was created with people sharing the same vision in order to give a support to people living with serious illnesses that can affect their quality of life and limit their autonomy.
What are ASPASEN's missions ?
The missions are: to support patients and their families by providing free palliative care at home; enhance the capacity of care providers; build a strong network of partners in Senegal and abroad; promote the culture of palliative care and create a hospice, a reception and care area in the Dakar.
What does palliative care mean ?
Palliative care is a set of health, social and psychosocial services intended to improve the quality of life of people suffering from serious illnesses accompanied by functional disability. Palliative care aims to: - Improve the comfort and quality of life of patients with a serious illness - Relieve pain and other physical symptoms by integrating psychological and spiritual aspects - Support families
Who can benefit from palliative care ?
Currently, it is the patients who are discharged from hospital.
What are the activities of the alliance ?
The ASPASEN offers free palliative care at home and plans to build a hospice, a reception and care area to take care of patients whose situation requires it. Thanks to donors and the members strong commitment, ASPASEN intends to train and set up mobile palliative care teams to serve the patients and their families.
